Strawless September, Plastic Free Month Challenge
September 24, 2017^^^ That's a beautiful ocean! Let's keep it that way :)
This is a quick thought on preventing extra trash and promoting awareness with monthly challenges - using the power of habit to make a positive change in our environment.
Take Plastic Free July for example - the goal is to go the whole month without using single-use plastics like straws, togo cups, bags, wrappers, etc. Our modern "use once and throw away" plastic culture is beating up our oceans and killing innocent animals that eat it or get tangled in it, especially our friends in the ocean!
I (Joe) took part in Plastic Free July, also made a video on it to support the movement:
Recently I heard about "Strawless September" and of course love the idea! Another good time to think about our plastic use and cutting back, or in the case of straws just not even using them.
I couldn't find a website specifically for Strawless September, but StrawlessOcean.org is all about it. Check out their highlight of Strawless in Seattle, a campaign from the good city of Seattle that supports Strawless Ocean's global initiative to remove 500 million plastic straws from the U.S. waste stream in 2017.
These movements collectively help us live in a healthier world, I always love seeing new ones sprout up!
